Goins' paper has been selected by Computational Materials Science

A paper by MSE PhD Philip Goins has been selected by the journal Computational Materials Science as an Editor’s Choice. "The Material Point Monte Carlo model: A discrete, off-lattice method for microstructural evolution simulations” is based on Goins’ doctoral research with his advisor, Prof. Elizabeth Holm. It presents a novel simulation method, based on a dynamic random lattice of points, for simulating microstructural evolution phenomena such as grain growth, recrystallization, and strain induced boundary migration. The paper can be seen on the journal homepage for volume 124.

This work was supported by the National Science Foundation award DMR-1307138 and the John and Claire Bertucci Graduate Fellowship Foundation.
